One of the worst kitchen nightmares is finding a rat or a mouse scurrying along the counter. Rodents in the kitchen are a house emergency and call for immediate pest control but what if these rodents are in your garden instead?
On the outside, it might not feel too problematic since the rodents are in the garden and not inside the premises of your home. But if the population of these rodents goes unchecked, a large infestation could occur and it will be highly likely for a rat to crawl its way into your house as well. Plus, these rodents like to gnaw on wires that could damage the electrical supply to your house.
Rodents in the yard should be eliminated as soon as possible. Hire a professional pest control service to get rid of them effectively.
How Do You Know it’s the Rats?
You don’t have to have supervision to know your garden has a rodent infestation. Rats and mice leave behind prominent signs that can lead to their early detection and subsequently, eradication. Tiny tracks marks are classic. You’ll find paw prints near the rubbish bin, on metal and wood and other places that the rodents run along.
Many rodent species also construct burrows near places they can find food in. This could be near the bin or even the kitchen door. These burrows are normally around 3-6" wide.
Droppings of garden rodents are also important signs but it can sometimes be missed if your garden is too grassy and overcrowded in the Spring or Summer months.
Some species of rodents like the vole or mole live in tunnels and you might come across these shallow tunnels if there is a vole living in your garden areas, even in the winter. Voles are generally larger and hard to miss. They also like to feed on fruits and seeds.
