Rodents making a humble abode in your living space can be a house crisis. Not only is their presence unsanitary but these rodents also carry a pool of diseases that could affect the health of your family. Pest control companies are often hired to effectively exterminate any mouse or rat in the house but sometimes people try to go the DIY way to get rid of these rodents.
Although calling the pest control company is your best bet at keeping mice away from your house for good, there are some natural home remedies that have proven successful against rodents. Seal Cracks and Holes Rodents usually hide in dark places that are out of reach from humans. This could be in the deep corners of your oven or more commonly, in the holes and cracks in your wall. The first thing you need to do to get rid of these mice is to seal their entry or exit into their hiding places. Use materials such as copper or green kitchen pads that rodents cannot chew their way into. You should remember that rodents do not have solid backbones so they can wiggle their way into the tiniest of cracks. A seemingly innocent puncture in the wall could be home to these rodents. Use Peppermint Oil The strong smell of peppermint oil is an excellent way of driving mice away. Sprinkle peppermint oil on cotton balls and leave them in the corners of your kitchen or any other room where you suspect a rodent might be hiding. An alternative to the oil is mint leaves. In general, mice have an aversion to anything that has a strong mint flavor or smell to it. Introduce Natural Predators Cats are natural predators of mice and keeping a house cat can help you locate and drive away any rodents present. If you can’t keep a cat then using used cat litter will also help to drive away mice. Have a rodent problem? Call All Star Pest Solutions today. We are your local Albany pest control specialists.
