Having mosquitos in your backyard is not only an unsightly occurrence but it is also dangerous for your health. Mosquitos make the ideal vectors for a couple of diseases - malaria, yellow fever, dengue and more. Even if these diseases aren’t an epidemic in your country, having mosquitoes in your backyard is still unhygienic and extremely frustrating for people with sensitive skin types.
The problem is these insects are pretty stubborn to deal with and they’re never present in a small group. No, they always come in an entire army. And more often than not, they manage to invade your house as well especially in the early morning/twilight and when the sun is setting.
To completely get rid of mosquitos once and for all in your home, you need to first eradicate them completely from your backyard.
#1: Use Electronic Mosquito Repellants
You’ve probably seen these devices in beachside restaurants or other public areas that are humid. Recently, the trend of getting these electronic mosquito repellants installed in homes has been rising. These devices take minimal energy and are safe to use inside and outside the house.
#2: Get Rid of Stagnant Water
Mosquitos preferentially breed in stagnant water and if you live in an area where mosquitoes cause an endemic, then you’ve probably already been warned to not leave water standing outside your house. Drain any stagnant water, especially after a shower of rain to prevent mosquitos find a breeding ground in your home.
#3: Use Natural Mosquito Repelling Products
Citronella, basil, neem oils, camphor all act as proven mosquito repellants. If you’re well-versed in the art of gardening, you can easily grow basil plants, citronella grass, marigold, lavender and lemon balm that all act to repel mosquitos. Similarly using citronella candles and camphor tablets around your home can also help prevent mosquitos from thriving in your backyard.
#4: Introduce Predators of the Mosquito
Dragonflies and frogs are primary predators of mosquitoes. If you happen to have a pond that can act as a breeding ground for mosquitos, it’s best to keep some frogs around as well. Even if you’re not a fan of the amphibian, having them around is much safer for you and your family than having mosquitos in your backyard.
Since a ton of parasites grow inside the body of a mosquito, it’s important that you protect yourself and your family from the potential dangers of these insects. With a few preventive measures, you can successfully get rid of mosquitoes from your backyard.
