The itchy bites that bed bugs leave behind often seem to be similar to scabies, which is a kind of skin irritation caused by small mites. Bed bugs are small insects while scabies are also insects of a different category. Usually scabies and bed bugs feed on human, but they do so in a different manner. If you look at scabies mites these are too small to be seen by the naked eye. They usually burrow in the human skin and lay eggs as well as feed off it. Bed bugs on the other hand, are small insects that are larger in comparison; one will find them hiding in furniture and in bedding, mattresses and they come out in the dark to feed on humans.
If you look at the bites that both these insects leave behind, there are certain tell tale signs that one could inspect closely in order to make out the difference between scabies and bedbug bites. Scabies are known to target specific areas of the human body. Bed bugs on the other hand, usually bite on anybody area and do not differentiate. When bed bugs bite, there is a numbing agent that is injected. This substance creates an allergic reaction which in turn leads to red bumps on the skin. The bed bugs have small and soft bodies and when they feed on a person’s body and are full of blood, they are often crushed under the weight of the person and that leaves behind small spots of blood.
Scabies usually target certain areas of a human body like creases between fingers or on a person’s wrist. Scabies sores could develop on the elbows, in between toes, genital areas and so forth. Infestation by scabies, sores leads to the white lines on the skin which later on becomes inflamed and red bumps. The bumps itch and often those who scratch themselves aggressively open up skin pores and that can lead to further skin infections.
For treating scabies rashes there are medicated creams that are prescribed without which such rashes are difficult to get rid of. In case of bed bug bites, these will reduce after a while and common home remedies can help you find your skin rid of the bites and itchy marks after a while.
